The SUNY Training Strategies Group (TSG) is part of the Research
Foundation of State University of New York. TSG offers a full range
of learning strategies that are responsive to the training goals of
your organization. Our experienced staff will work directly with you
to design and implement systems to meet the education and training
needs of your organization.

SUNY TSG believes access to quality adult learning experiences is key
in meeting the strategic goals of your organization. We will design a
comprehensive training model based on the outcome goals and needs of
your organization. At SUNY TSG we use a team approach in designing a
training model for your organization. Our team of experienced staff will
not apply a “one size fits all” approach in designing training
for your organization. We are committed to accommodating your organization’s
training needs on-time and within the budget.
Research and Content Development
Research and content development is the driving force in all that we
do at SUNY TSG. It is the first step in designing all of the training
initiatives developed by our program. The Research and Content Development
team will conduct independent research or use resource materials provided
by your organization in the development of training content. Since 1990,
SUNY TSG has developed over 300 hours of training curriculum.

Video Production
The Video Production team produces high quality pre-recorded
videotape and live videoconference training programs. This
team also works closely with the Content and Research Development
unit in all aspects of the video production. The Video Production
team has the ability to manage all tasks related to the video
training production including:

Script development
- Production of pre-recorded videotapes and video-clip segments
- Selection and scheduling off-site locations
- Technical assistant on off-site production
- Post production editing
- Production assistance for live videoconference broadcast
- Panelist recommendations and preparation
- Liaison with New
York Network
- Technical staff coverage for live videoconferences
- Coordination of downlink sites and co-trainers
- All aspects of participant registration
- Production and distribution of participant materials
Live videoconference
training is the hallmark distance learning model of SUNY TSG. The
live videoconference model includes panel discussions with national
and state experts, on-site activities, video-clip footage of programs
in action and extensive handout and resource materials. The
Video Production team works directly with co-trainers who serve as
on-site facilitators for the videoconference training. The co-trainers
facilitate on-site activities for participants and provide a local
perspective on the topic presented.
Since the initial training pilot in 1996, the
live videoconference training has evolved into an award-winning model
of distance learning earning national recognition.
Program Development and Management
SUNY TSG staff has been involved in the development, implementation
and administration of specialized programs on behalf of state agencies. Our
Program Development and Management team will work closely with your
organization to determine the best strategy in implementing a program.
SUNY TSG staff will work on the overall development and administration
of your program. SUNY TSG staff will develop an evaluation tool to review
program effectiveness.
The New York State Educational Incentive Program is
a prime example of the successful program development and management
services offered by SUNY TSG. The Educational
Incentive Program (EIP) was created as part of a strategy to promote
the professional and career development of those working in the field
of child care. Eligible child care professionals may use EIP funds toward
educational and training activities which may include credit-bearing
educational opportunities, non-credit-bearing training to fulfill specific
training, credentialing, accreditation
and certificate program requirements, or non-credit bearing workshops,
conferences and institutes.
SUNY TSG staff handle the overall administration of this scholarship
program including:
- Outreach activities to inform child care professionals
and training organizations about the program
- Information and application development
- Review and process applications and awards
- Review and process of payments to training organizations
- Evaluation and audit of courses and training accessed using
EIP
Classroom and Computer-based Instruction and Training
SUNY
TSG also has experienced training staff available to present
content through the traditional classroom training. Our staff
of experienced trainers will work closely with your organization
to determine if this training model is the most effective method
of content delivery.
Classroom training developed and presented by SUNY TSG includes:

SUNY TSG has a team that will work with your organization to develop
training delivered using computer technology. This distance learning
model provides an opportunity to present “just in time” training
to your organization. Our Computer Based Training Team will work closely
with your organization to deliver training content using a web-based
or CD-Rom format. Training developed by this team includes:
- Our Place – training tool to assist clients in
finding housing
- Interviewing Skills – basic interview skills training
- Invitation to Talk – advanced interview skills
training
Public Education
SUNY TSG has worked with state agencies to develop comprehensive
programs to educate the public on important programs and policy issues.
Using our extensive experience in adult learning, SUNY TSG will work
with your organization to develop an effective public education effort.
SUNY TSG will handle all aspects of the development, production and
promotion of a public education campaign.
In 1997, SUNY TSG was asked to develop materials for a statewide campaign
to educate parents on selecting quality child care. This project
resulted in the award winning Think About Child Care public education campaign.
The components of the comprehensive Think About Child Care
public education campaign included:
- Print materials including a checklist for finding quality
child care

- 25 minute videotape featuring parents who discuss their
experiences in finding child care
- 30 second “call-to-action” public service
announcement featuring a toll-free telephone number for more
information
- Development and implementation of a statewide promotion
of the Think About Child Care public education campaign
The Think About Child Care Public Education Campaign has won the following
awards:
- 1999 – Silver Axiem Award – National Finalist
