About Distance Learning Project (DLP)
The SUNY Distance Learning Project is part
of the video production arm of the Training Strategies
Group. Right now, "DLP" is under exclusive
contract to serve the Bureau
of Training and Workforce Development (formerly OHRD) in the New
York State Office of Family and Children Services' Office of Human
Resources. That bureau has the lead role in educating thousands
of state and county social services employees, as well
as employees of the Juvenile Justice system on matters
of Policy and Practice. For its part, DLP is the principal
consultant for technical and educational support for statewide
satellite delivered programming. DLP has been called upon
to produce "broadcasts" and
videos for many State agencies, such as the Department
of Health, Department of
Labor and State
Office for the Aging. DLP serves many programs under the Office
of Temporary and Disability Assistance, which is under the Department
of Family Assistance umbrella.
DLP delivers timely programming through a high-tech
digital satellite receiver system with "downlinks" in
every county of the state, as well as the Residential Treatment
Centers serving juveniles under state custody. The system allows
the selection of individual sites or the entire network.
DLP is equipped with state-of-the-art digital video cameras and a
non-linear editor in order to produce high quality video support materials
for statewide teleconferences, stand-alone presentations or support
material for stand-up training. The staff provides consulting for effective
on-camera presentation and supportive graphics for results oriented
training.
In its present role, DLP is providing human services programming to
those who serve the most vulnerable populations, whose demographics
include those in social service or juvenile justice systems. These
populations include the working poor, the blind and disabled, at-risk
youth, delinquent youth, foster children, the aged and others who might
be considered needy or on the fringe of society.
